Two days of rockets, one night under the stars and a front-row seat to the launch pads. Mission accepted?
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is the kind of place that turns grown-ups back into wide-eyed kids. One minute you’re standing beneath a real Saturn V moon rocket, the next you’re nose to nose with Space Shuttle Atlantis, and before you know it you’re asking a veteran astronaut what space smells like. (Yes, you can ask that!)
There’s so much to see that one day whizzes by faster than a rocket clearing the tower. That’s why our favourite way to visit is over two days, with a cosy night staying on the space coast. Grab a Kennedy Space Center Admission 2-Day Ticket, pack your sense of wonder and get ready for your very own Orlando space mission!
Here’s your flight plan: how to get there, how to make the most of one day, and why two days (plus a starry sleepover) is the perfect space escape.
How to get to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex sits on Merritt Island on Florida’s Space Coast. The good news? It’s an easy hop from Orlando, the beaches and the cruise port.
Orlando to Kennedy Space Center
Kennedy Space Center is a simple 45-60 minute drive east of Orlando, heading straight for the coast. Hiring a car gives you the most freedom, so you can set off as early as you like, stay right up until closing and cruise on to your hotel or the beach afterwards.
Happy to hand over the controls? A taxi from Orlando will take you straight to the complex, or you can hop on a Greyhound bus to Titusville (it takes around 50 minutes) and grab a short taxi ride onwards to the complex or your hotel.
Cocoa Beach to Kennedy Space Center
Sun-seeker and space cadet? You can be both! Cocoa Beach is only around 30 minutes’ drive from the complex, so you can spend the morning among the rockets and still be back on the sand in time for an ice cream at sunset.
Port Canaveral to Kennedy Space Center
If you’re setting sail from Port Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is only around 20-30 minutes’ drive away, which makes it a brilliant way to kick off or round off your cruise holiday.
Staying in Titusville the night before you sail (or the night you get back) keeps travel days nice and relaxed. If you’re visiting on a port day, give yourself plenty of time to get back on board before your ship sets off on its own voyage!
Tips for visiting Kennedy Space Center in one day
If you only have one day to play astronaut, you can still pack in plenty of out-of-this-world moments. Here’s your pre-launch checklist:
- Check your route and allow extra time for traffic. Orlando roads can be busier at certain times of day, so give yourself a little breathing room.
- Arrive early to make the most of your day. The complex opens daily at 9am, and an early start gives you more time for the big hitters, like the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour to the Apollo/Saturn V Center.
- Check admission and transport arrangements before travelling. Have your tickets ready on your phone, check the latest opening hours (the complex can occasionally close at short notice for rocket launches) and remember that parking is payable on site.
Why we recommend spending two days at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
For a more relaxed, laid-back trip, two days is our top tip! The Kennedy Space Center Admission 2-Day Ticket costs only a fraction more than a one-day ticket, and that extra day makes a world (or should that be a galaxy?) of difference.
More time to explore the exhibits at your own pace
Every corner of the complex has a story to tell, and you’ll want time to soak them all up. Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex shows off the spacecraft shaping the future of space travel, Heroes and Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame celebrates the trailblazers, and the Rocket Garden lets little ones climb aboard capsule replicas. With two days, you can linger as long as you like!
Less pressure to fit everything into one day
Two days means you can take things at a lovely, unhurried pace. Lots of families spend day one on the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour and the Apollo/Saturn V Center, where a whopping 363-foot Saturn V rocket stretches out above you and the Firing Room brings the Apollo 8 launch roaring back to life.
Day two is then free for Space Shuttle Atlantis, Gateway and anything else on your mission list.
More opportunities to join included presentations and experiences
Some of the most magical moments at the complex are the presentations included with your admission. Astronaut Encounter is a firm favourite, with the chance to hear stories straight from someone who’s been there and ask all your burning questions. Bring your camera!
Two days also gives you more time for 3D space films at the IMAX Theatre and for young explorers aged 2-12 to bounce around Planet Play.
Time to revisit favourite attractions or discover something unexpected
Loved the Shuttle Launch Experience so much you want another go? With a second day, you can! Head back to the spacecraft that wowed you the most, or wander into an exhibit you missed the first time round. Some of the best holiday memories are the surprises you have time to stumble across.
Even better, your second visit doesn’t need to be the very next day. The 2-Day Ticket lets you return later in your holiday, within the ticket’s validity window, so you can slot your visits around park days, beach days or a cruise.
*Shuttle Launch Experience riders must be at least 48 inches tall.

Why staying nearby makes a two-day visit more comfortable
Staying close by means less time behind the wheel and more time living your best astronaut life! You can roll up bright and early on both days, pop back for a dip between visits and swap a long evening drive to Orlando for dinner with a view of the launch pads. Two busy days instantly become a relaxed little space getaway.
A fully immersive space experience
This hotel is space-themed from top to bottom, and it’s packed with fun touches that kids (and plenty of grown-ups!) will love:
- Astronaut star projectors: A little astronaut on your bedside table fills the ceiling with stars and galaxies, so bedtime becomes a trip through the cosmos.
- The Space Bar: Head up to the rooftop from the afternoon for craft cocktails, tasty bar food and sweeping views of the Kennedy Space Center launch complexes. Rocket launches are screened here too, so on launch days it’s the place to be!
- Space-themed rooms: Space murals bring the walls to life, and binoculars are provided so you can scan the skies and peer across the river.
- Out-of-this-world lobby: NASA artefacts and an astronaut display greet you the moment you walk in, and little ones will love the digital drawing screen and Luna the robot zipping around the deliveries.
- Resort-style pool: The large outdoor pool has a children’s splash zone, complimentary cabanas and a poolside bar, which is usually open at weekends.
- Riverside fire pits: The outdoor area by the river has fire pits and lawn games for all guests, perfect for winding down after a day exploring the cosmos.
- The Bistro: Fuel up for your mission with a delicious cooked-to-order breakfast, including fluffy American-style pancakes and French toast! In the evening, The Bistro becomes a bar serving dinner and drinks.
- Starbucks® grab-and-go: The hotel's Starbucks® grab-and-go café is open from early morning until late, perfect for a coffee and a snack to fuel you up before lift-off. Top tip: take your coffee outside early and watch an incredible sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean!
River-view rooms look out towards Kennedy Space Center, so if a launch is scheduled during your stay, you could have one of the best seats in town. Fingers crossed for a countdown!*
