Planning a trip to Tenerife and wondering whether to visit Siam Park, Loro Parque or both? Our team has been to both parks first-hand and put together everything you need to know - from insider tips and ride highlights to a full one-week itinerary. Read on to find out more!

What is Siam Park Tenerife?

Voted the best waterpark in the world by TripAdvisor users multiple years running, Siam Park sits in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife. It’s just minutes from the airport, making it the perfect first-day adventure.

Set against a Thai-inspired backdrop of tropical vegetation, cascading waterfalls and golden sandy beaches, Siam Park is much more than a collection of water slides. Thrill-seekers and those who’d rather drift lazily along the world’s biggest lazy river will find plenty to love here - there’s genuinely something for everyone!

Siam Park rides - what to expect

With over 30 rides to discover, you could easily spend a full day at Siam Park and still feel like you’ve only scratched the surface. Here are the highlights our team loved:

Tower of Power

Siam Park’s most iconic attraction and, honestly, the one that still gets talked about in the office. You’ll climb the tower, take a very deep breath, and plunge down an almost vertical 28-metre drop at speeds of up to 80 km/h, emerging through an underwater aquarium. It’s terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure.

The Dragon

Grab a raft with up to three companions and prepare to experience zero gravity. Yes, really! This is one of those rides where you genuinely cannot predict what’s coming next.

Saifa

The longest and most vertiginous ride in the park, Saifa is a high-speed water coaster powered by RocketBLAST technology. At 83 metres high, and 306 metres long, it’s a record-breaker and an absolute must.

Saifa Siam Park

The Wave Palace

Home to the biggest artificial waves in the world, rising up to 3 metres high. Jump in and catch the surf, or paddle along the vast white sand beach at the edges. Either way, it’s great fun!

Mai Thai River

For a more relaxed adventure, meander along the world’s biggest lazy river, past cascading waterfalls, lush vegetation and an aquarium full of tropical fish. It ends with a Jacuzzi finale - the perfect wind-down between the bigger thrills!

The Lost City

A water fortress full of bridges, waterfalls and gentle slides. Technically a kids’ attraction, but the adults in our group loved it just as much.

Our top Siam Park tips

Our team learnt a few things during their visit that we’re confident will make your day even better:

  • Arrive early. Tower of Power is the one ride with no fast pass option, so head there first thing before the crowds build. Trust us on this one!
  • Pre-book your Siam Park tickets. Booking in advance saves time on arrival, and with AttractionTickets.com you’ll get gate-ready tickets. Simply scan and go.
  • Consider upgrading to the All-Inclusive Deluxe Ticket. This includes unlimited fast pass access to all attractions (except Tower of Power and Mai Thai River), all-you-can-eat dining, soft drinks, beer, water and complimentary locker service. If you’re visiting during peak session, this is genuinely great value.
  • Take the free bus. Guests staying in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos can hop on the free Siam Park bus, which runs every 30 minutes. It takes the stress out of getting there completely.
  • Leave glasses and loose jewellery in your locker. You’ll be asked to remove these on most rides, so lock them away at the start of the day. Lockers start from €7.

Where is Siam Park?

Siam Park is located in Costa Adeje, in the south of Tenerife. It’s a short drive from the airport and most of the major resorts. The park is open year-round: 10am-6pm in summer (May-October) and 10am-5pm in winter (November-April), including Christmas Day!

What is Loro Parque?

On the other side of the island - quite literally - you’ll find Loro Parque, a world-class zoo and conservation park in the town of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of Tenerife. Voted the number one zoo in Europe on TripAdvisor, it’s easy to see why it has such a devoted following.

This is a very different experience to Siam Park - green, shaded and home to a remarkable variety of exotic species. Where Siam Park is all high-octane water thrills, Loro Parque is about discovery and genuine wonder at the natural world. You’ll want a full day here too!

Loro Parque animals - what to see

Loro Parque is home to a remarkable variety of exotic species, and the team works hard to keep every resident happy and engaged. Throughout the park, animals are provided with stimulating toys and enrichment activities, many made from recycled materials sourced within Loro Parque itself. It's a small detail that says a lot about how the park thinks about the animals in its care.

Planet Penguin

The world’s biggest penguin habitat, complete with real snow, a huge iceberg and hundreds of Antarctic penguins. THe near 360-degree viewing platform gives you an incredible perspective on their world.

Villa Gorilla

Come face to face with an all-male gorilla family through expansive viewing panes. The naturalistic forest environment is immersive enough that it’s genuinely hard to tear yourself away.

AquaViva

A mesmerising underwater show featuring hundreds of colourful, fluorescent jellyfish alongside Blacktip sharks and tropical fish. A real highlight!

Coral Kingdom

Brand new and already one of the standout exhibits, this installation combines state-of-the-art visual technology with over 8,000 corals and almost 10,000 fish.

Katandra Treetops

Walk through jungle paths and hanging bridges, searching for lorikeets, cockatoos, kookaburras and emus. A lovely, calmer corner of the park.

The Parrot Show

Don’t miss this one! The ingenuity and talent of Loro Parque’s famous parrots never fails to delight, and there’s a reason the park built its reputation on its extraordinary parrot collection.

Where is Loro Parque in Tenerife?

Loro Parque is in Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of Tenerife, roughly an hour’s drive from the south of the island. Loro Parque opens at 9:30am and closes at 5:30pm, all year-round.

Is it worth visiting both Siam Park and Loro Parque?

Absolutely, and without hesitation! These two parks offer completely different experiences, and that’s exactly why they work so well together. Siam Park is a record-breaking water park; Loro Parque is a world-renowned zoo packed with incredible exotic species. Together, they represent two of the very best days out Tenerife has to offer!

Buying both together is also better value. Our Loro Parque and Siam Park Twin Ticket gives you entrance to both parks for one great price, plus two FREE hamburgers (one at each park).

Getting between Siam Park and Loro Parque

Since the parks are on opposite sides of the island, a little planning goes a long way. Tenerife is a relatively small island, and getting between north and south is easier than you might think. Your options include:

  • Coach transfers - Pre-bookable and stress-free, ideal if you’d rather not navigate unfamiliar roads.
  • Taxi - Convenient and readily available, particularly from resort areas.
  • Public transport - Tenerife has a reliable bus network (TITSA) connecting north and south. It’s very affordable and a great way to see the island!
  • Car hire - Give you the most flexibility, particularly if you want to explore beyond the parks (Mount Teide, we’re looking at you).

Our top tip: pre-book everything. Pre-book your tickets, pre-book your transfers and plan which days you’re visiting each park before you arrive. It makes the whole trip more relaxed and means you won’t miss out!

Our experts’ experience - staying in Tenerife

When our team visited, we stayed at the Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden in Puerto de la Cruz. It’s a genuinely peaceful base - beautifully landscaped tropical gardens, a luxurious spa and a relaxed atmosphere that feels a world away from the busier resort areas in the south. We’d highly recommend it.

The hotel offers a transfer to Puerto de la Cruz town centre, and from there you can jump aboard the yellow train that runs directly to Loro Parque. It’s a fun way to arrive that the whole family will enjoy!

Our recommendation? Split your week between both sides of the island. Base yourself in the south for the first few days (closer to the airport and Siam Park), then head north for a more relaxed stay before your Loro Parque visit. The contrast between the two sides of the island is part of what makes Tenerife so rewarding to explore.

The bonus experience - Siam Night at Siam Park

If you’re visiting in July or August, why not add a Siam Night to your trip? After dark, Siam Park transforms into Tenerife’s biggest pool party - lasers, live DJs and the park’s rides all lit up in a completely different way. It’s a brilliant night out and genuinely unlike anything else on the island. Book your Siam Night ticket in advance to avoid missing out!

Your one-week Tenerife itinerary - Siam Park, Loro Parque and beyond!

Not sure how to structure your week? Here’s the tried-and-trusted itinerary our team would recommend:

Day 1 - Arrive and settle in

After landing at Tenerife South Airport, head to your hotel in the south of the island and take the rest of the day to relax. Explore your resort, find a great spot for dinner and get ready for the adventures ahead.

Day 2 - Siam Park day!

Head to Siam Park first thing - arrive early to beat the crowds and tackle the Tower of Power before the lines build up. Give yourself the whole day to work through the 30+ rides, soak up the wave pool and relax on Siam Beach. A full day here is essential - don’t try to squeeze it into a half-day.

Day 3 - Playa del Camison

Time for a rest day. Head to Playa del Camison, one of the most accessible and enjoyable beaches in the south of Tenerife. Enjoy the golden sand, the warm Atlantic waters and the relaxed beachside atmosphere - it’s total bliss!

Day 4 - Head north and check in

Today, make the journey to the north of Tenerife. Check into your hotel in or around Puerto de la Cruz (Hotel Botanico comes highly recommended) and spend the rest of the day relaxing, exploring the hotel grounds or strolling into town.

Day 5 - Puerto de la Cruz and Mount Teide

Spend the morning exploring Puerto de la Cruz, and if the weather is right, take a dip in the Lago Martiánez - a series of saltwater pools designed by the legendary artist and architect César Manrique, right on the seafront. A really special experience.

In the evening, make the drive up to Mount Teide - at 3,718 metres, it’s Spain’s highest peak. Watching the sunset from the slopes of Teide, with the clouds below you and the Atlantic Ocean stretching to the horizon, is one of those moments that stays with you long after you’ve landed home. Don’t miss it!

Day 6 - Loro Parque day!

Today is Loro Parque day, and just like Siam Park, you’ll want the whole day to do it justice. Head to the park early before it opens at 8:30am, grab a map at the entrance and plan your route around the exhibits and shows. Make sure you get to Planet Penguin, Villa Gorilla, AquaViva and Coral Kingdom. A full day here flies by.

Day 7 - Head home

Time to head back to Tenerife South Airport. Take a final wander, pick up some souvenirs and start planning your next visit, because one week is never quite enough!
