Read on to discover when is the best time to book your Walt Disney World Resort tickets and how to get the most value for money.
When should I buy my Walt Disney World Resort tickets?
There isn’t really a right or wrong time to buy your Walt Disney World Resort tickets, but we recommend buying them as soon as you can. Although tickets don’t necessarily go up in cost based on demand, they are subject to price increases.
Buying them as soon as they come out or as soon as you’re able to pay for them can help you to avoid disappointment if they sell out or the price goes up. It can also help with your budgeting since you can pay upfront, so there will be less to pay when you get there.
Tickets are typically released around 18 months in advance, so you can be organised as soon as you start planning your holiday.
You can buy your tickets online at AttractionTickets.com. AttractionTickets.com is the largest theme park specialist in Europe, selling over 1 million tickets each year, so we really know our stuff. Buying theme park tickets through our website is easy, cheap, and quick.
How much are Walt Disney World Resort tickets?
The cost of Walt Disney World Resort tickets varies depending on the type of ticket you opt for and when you choose to visit.
You’ll find that prices are more expensive during peak times like school holidays, spring break in America, Thanksgiving and Christmas, whereas months like January and September are often cheaper. However, there is a trade-off here as January is one of the coldest months, and September can be humid and rainy. August is also a good month to check prices for, as schools in America are back open, which can mean tickets are cheaper while still being within UK school holidays.
A seven-day ticket is, as you’d expect, cheaper than a 14-day ticket. However, a 14-day ticket works out better value per day. Prices start from around £35 per day for a child’s ticket.
Can I buy Walt Disney World Resort tickets at the gate?
Yes, you can buy Walt Disney World Resort tickets at the gate when you arrive at one of the theme parks.
However, we wouldn’t recommend that you leave it until the day itself to buy tickets at the gate for a few reasons:
- Tickets can sell out. If you’re visiting on a popular day, you might arrive at the gate to find that there are no tickets left and you can’t go in. The disappointment doesn’t bear thinking about!
- It takes time. You’ll be itching to get into the park and get on your first ride. However, first, you’ll need to queue for the ticket office, and this eats into precious park time.
- They’re less value for money. You can’t buy 7-day or 14-day tickets on the gate, just 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-day tickets and these work out significantly more expensive per day than our Disney Magic Tickets.

The only difference between the two is the length of time each one is valid for, so the best one for you will depend on the length of your Orlando holiday and how many days you’re planning to spend at the Disney Parks.
It’s worth noting that the 7-day tickets have a 15-day validity window from the selected date, while the 14-day tickets have an 18-day validity period, giving you more flexibility during your trip.

Get exclusive ticket types
The Disney Magic Tickets available on AttractionTickets.com are exclusive to UK and Irish customers purchasing in advance, so these won’t be available on the gate. These tickets give you access to longer duration visits, and extras like Memory Maker and mini golf that aren’t included in other tickets.
Purchase Lightning Lane passes
Lightning Lane is Disney’s fast-track option for skipping the standby line. It’s a great way to save time in the parks, experience more attractions, or go on rides you love more than once.
You can buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass on the My Disney Experience app and make your attraction selections up to three days in advance of your theme park visit if you’re not staying at a Disney Resort hotel.
If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you can buy them seven days before you check in for the whole of your stay. You’ll need to have your Walt Disney World Resort tickets to reserve your Lightning Lanes.
Making dining reservations
You can make dining reservations at any of the restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort up to 60 days before the date you’d like to dine. If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you can make dining reservations up to 60 days in advance of your arrival for the whole length of your stay (for up to 10 nights).
If you’re dining at one of the restaurants inside the theme parks, then you’ll need a valid theme park ticket, so it makes sense to book your ticket before your dining reservation to avoid disappointment. This also applies to Character Dining.
Avoid disappointment
Imagine arriving at the gates to the theme park you’ve been looking forward to visiting for the last year, and the park is at capacity, so you can’t get in. It would be the worst! Well, you don’t need to worry about that – avoid disappointment by booking your park tickets in advance.
Saves time
Buying your Walt Disney World Resort tickets before your holiday can save you significant time when you get there. Because you’ve already got your tickets, you won’t need to queue at the ticket office before entering the theme parks. This gives you more time to spend on the rides and attractions, meet Disney Characters, and watch the spectacular shows.
Saves money
Prices are often the highest at the gate, so buying them in advance will get you the best deal.
