For those using the transport to get to the Silfra fissure for their snorkeling or diving tour, you will have around 15-20 minutes to go to the viewing platform. From there, you have a good view over the whole of Þingvellir Rift Valley, the only place on earth where you can see two tectonic plate boundaries drift on the surface, and look over Þingvellir National Park and our beautiful lake Þingvallavatn, the biggest lake in Iceland. Be sure not to wander around too much because the last thing you want is to miss the bus down to the dive site!

The transfer departs from the BSI Bus terminal in Reykjavík. Optional hotel pick-up is available at extra cost and starts 30 minutes before the selected departure time.

Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park

Whether you take the morning or afternoon tour, you can encounter a cross-section of Iceland's natural wonders and geological phenomena at Þingvellir National Park, an area of historical and geological significance. Here, the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimeters per year. Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Silfra fissure, between the continents

A Geological Wonder Between the two Continents and a Bucket list dive and snorkel site. Nestled within Iceland's Þingvellir National Park lies Silfra, a majestic fissure marking the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Born from seismic activity in 1789, Silfra continues to widen as these colossal plates slowly drift apart at a rate of approximately 2 centimeters per year. This unique site is the singular location worldwide where adventurers can dive into the depths or glide along snorkeling on the surface, directly between the two tectonic plates.

The earthquakes of 1789 birthed numerous rifts across Þingvellir, yet Silfra stands distinct, slicing through an underground aquifer fed by the pristine glacial meltwaters of Langjökull glacier about 60 km away. Travelling through porous lava rock for decades, the water emerges at Silfra with unparalleled clarity with underwater visibility exceeding 100 meters. Despite its cold temperatures between 2°C to 4°C year-round, the constant current of fresh water ensures Silfra remains liquid, offering a crystalline window into its depths.

Renowned for their amazing clarity, Silfra's waters are often hailed as the clearest on Earth, inviting even the boldest to sip on their purity during their diving or snorkeling adventure.
