Discover Poland’s most important historical sites as you combine two amazing tours, The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum Tour and The Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour in the same day! Perfect for those who have a limited time in Krakow and want to explore two of Poland’s UNESCO-listed sites.
Our guide to Auschwitz and Wieliczka Salt Mine in One Day
Your day starts early with a guided visit to Auschwitz, where approximately 1.5 million people were killed during WWII's Holocaust. Today, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it poignantly commemorates the lives of those who died within its walls and fences and is a must-visit for all.
Visit Auschwitz I - the administrative center of Auschwitz death camp - and Auschwitz II, designed and constructed simply as an execution facility. Compromising of approximately 150 buildings and 300 ruins, The Martyrdom Museum still has the original roads, fences, watchtowers, and railway ramps. You will also have the opportunity to see an original collection of exhibits and documents.
As you pay tribute to victims and survivors of the Holocaust, your expert guide will sensitively portray the horrors that happened at Auschwitz and you will leave with a much greater understanding of the critical events in its history.
After travelling back to your original departure point, you will have some free time before joining your second tour of the day, The Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour.
One of the oldest salt mines in Europe, this ancient UNESCO World Heritage site is made up of a labyrinth of tunnels carved from salt blocks. The first tourist trail in Wieliczka was established in the 19th century and now consists of 20 monumental chambers joined by 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) of pathways, which stretch over 9 levels and descend 1,075 feet (327 meters) below the surface of the Earth.
Your guided tour takes you from 210 to 440 feet (approximately 64 to 135 meters) down, passing through galleries and chambers where traces of mining activity have been preserved. Discover examples of sacred art and see The Chapel of the Blessed Kinga - a huge, underground church where everything from the chandeliers to the altarpieces, has been chiseled out of salt.
It is a long day fitting two tours in, but it will be truly unforgettable and allow you more time during your stay to explore what Krakow has to offer.
