No trip to Paris would be complete without a visit to the Palace and Gardens of Versailles, one of the most spectacular Royal residences in Europe.
Our guide to Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles was originally a small hunting lodge built by King Louis XIII in 1623. He liked the building so much, that his Royal Engineer and architect, was instructed to enlarge the site. This work was carried on by King Louise IV and what resulted was one of the most prestigious and spectacular residences in the whole of Europe.
Today, the palace remains just as spectacular, and her architects and decorators, such as Le Vau, Mansart and Le Notre, remain famous to this day. Now, the palace is one of the most popular attractions in Paris.
