Our guide to Teide Observatory Guided Tour

Discover why the Canary Islands are among the world’s top three stargazing destinations, alongside Chile and Hawaii, by visiting the Teide Observatory, the largest solar observatory on Earth. Located at an ideal latitude and altitude, the Canary Islands benefit from clear skies due to trade winds, making this observatory one of the most significant worldwide. Established in 1964, Teide Observatory’s origins trace back to English astronomer Piazzi Smyth, who in 1856 pioneered modern astronomy by conducting high-altitude observations from Tenerife.

Book your Teide Observatory experience today! Explore this scientific marvel, learn about ongoing research, and get an up-close look at the telescopes and projects led by the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics.

Your visit includes:

  • An introduction to Canary Islands astronomy, the Teide Observatory’s role, and the institute’s key projects.
  • A hands-on astrophysics workshop, where guides explain the field and the work of astrophysicists.
