How many days do you need at Walt Disney World Resort?
We think that spending two weeks in Orlando gives you plenty of time to make the most of your Walt Disney World Resort experience. With a 14-day park ticket, you’ll be able to tick all of the rides off your list, meet the Disney Characters, and even have a couple of days to chill out.
Walt Disney World Resort park hopper itinerary – two weeks
From taking off on Space Mountain to dining with the Disney Princesses, here’s how to make the most of your park hopper ticket at Walt Disney World Resort.
Day 1 - Arrive and relax
Most flights arrive in Orlando in the afternoon, so the first thing to do when you get there is to check in to your hotel and spend some time relaxing. You’ve just stepped off a long-haul flight, and there is a time difference of five hours from the UK, which will take a bit of adjusting to.
So spend some time chilling out by the pool, soaking up the Floridian sunshine, or head up to your room for an afternoon nap.
If you’re really keen to get into the parks, you could head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Wonderful World of Animation - a night-time projection show at the Chinese Theatre that pays tribute to over 90 years of Disney animation.
This is a good show for your first evening in Orlando, as it finishes earlier than some of the other shows, so you can still have an early night before you hit the parks tomorrow.
Day 2 - Magic Kingdom Park
When you think of Walt Disney World Resort, it’s likely that Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Park is one of the first things that comes to mind, so you’ll be itching to visit this magical theme park.
There’s a lot to do here, so you’ll need more than one day in Magic Kingdom Park – and with your park hopper ticket, you can return later on during your holiday. On this first visit, we suggest you start with some of the biggest attractions and then watch the Festival of Fantasy Parade in the afternoon.
In the evening, stick around for the legendary Happily Ever After Fireworks. Secure your spot on Main Street, U.S.A. for a great view of both the fireworks and the incredible light projections on Cinderella Castle.
Day 3 - Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
Animal lovers will be in their element at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park where there are over 1,700 animals to spot. Start your day with a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris. The animals are often more active in the mornings when the weather is cooler, so you’re likely to see more.
Later, head to Pandora - The World of Avatar, where you can have a 3D adventure as you ride a Banshee on Avatar Flight of Passage. See the mesmerising Tree of Awakenings light show once it gets dark.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park closes a little earlier than the other parks, so this is a great opportunity to head to one of the other parks or a Disney Resort hotel for dinner in the evening.
Make a beeline for Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom Park to dine with the Disney Princesses or Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, where you can enjoy dinner in a classic 1950s car at a drive-in movie theatre.
Day 4 - Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park
It’s about time we added one of Disney’s incredible water parks to your itinerary! This water park is themed around a ski resort with Mt. Gushmore at its centre. Thrill seekers will love throwing themselves down Summit Plummet, the third tallest freefall body slide in the world.
If you’d prefer to take it easy, why not just float around Cross Country Creek, the 3,000-foot (914-metre) long lazy river that encircles the park?
Tonight, you can head back into the parks for one of the nighttime shows. We recommend Luminous The Symphony of Us at EPCOT. You can watch the fountain, light, and laser show from World Showcase, where you can also eat your way around the world for dinner. Choose from fish and chips in the UK, sushi in Japan, or tacos in Mexico.
Day 5 - Go shopping and visit Disney Springs
Whether you want souvenirs to remember your holiday or some new threads to wear for the rest of your holiday, we suggest taking a day for some relaxed retail therapy. With your Disney 14-day Magic Ticket, you can head into the parks to check out the shops in each - and you might even have a cheeky ride while you’re there!
Top tip: If you’re planning on buying lots of Disney merch, bring out an empty suitcase with you to fill for your return!
Tonight, visit Disney Springs for dinner and entertainment. There’s live music at House of Blues, or catch a Great Gatsby-inspired show at The Edison Live Entertainment. Splitsville offers 10-pin bowling and billiards.
Day 6 - EPCOT
Learn more about scientific advancements, nature, and culture at Disney’s most educational theme park, EPCOT. Enjoy a simulated space launch on Mission: Space and a cruise through the animated story of Frozen on Frozen Ever After.
Since you’ve already seen the nighttime show here, take the opportunity to park hop to Magic Kingdom Park to go on any of the rides you’ve missed. Some of the rides offer a completely different experience after dark, like TRON Lightcycle / Run.
Day 7 - Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Live some of your favourite movies at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This theme park is home to rides and attractions inspired by franchises like Pixar and Star Wars™. If you’re brave enough, get the adrenaline pumping on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith or by plunging down a lift shaft on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™.
After dark, don’t miss Fantasmic!, a spectacular show starring Mickey Mouse. There are stunts, special effects, and pyrotechnics, all set to an incredible Disney soundtrack. The show has two times each night, so you can choose the one which suits you best.
Day 8 - Beach day
On day eight, we’ve planned a relaxing day - all that park hopping can really take it out of you! Florida is known as the Sunshine State for good reason and one of its beautiful beaches is a perfect place to soak up the good weather.
The closest beaches are around an hour’s drive from Orlando and include Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, and New Smyrna Beach. These beaches have water sports, restaurants, and entertainment options, so if you get bored of relaxing on the sand, there’s plenty to do.
If you’re not too tired this evening, you can return to one of the parks for dinner. Rose & Crown Dining Room in EPCOT offers dining on a lakefront patio where you enjoy views of Luminous The Symphony of Us. Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Day 9 - Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
Time to tick off the second of the Disney Water Parks - Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. This water park features a shipwreck theme with the mighty Mount Mayday in the middle. There’s something for everyone here with water coasters, a children’s splash area, and a lazy river.
If you enjoyed visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, you could take a Starlight Safari tonight at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (additional charges apply). You’ll use night vision goggles to see animals in the savannah.
Day 10 - Park hopping
On day 10 of your holiday, it’s time to really make the most of your park hopper ticket. Maybe head into Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park for breakfast and an animal experience before grabbing lunch and watching a spectacular show in Magic Kingdom Park, and then spending the afternoon on the thrill rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Day 11 - Pool day and a movie
After all the thrills and spills, you’ll be ready for another chill day. Spend it around the pool or take a wander to the shops. If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, there is usually entertainment during the day to enjoy.
In the evening, continue the laidback feel of the day and head to Disney Springs, where you can catch a movie at the AMC cinema. Don’t forget the popcorn!
Some of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels show outdoor movies at night, depending on the weather, so you could watch one of these instead.
Day 12 - Visit anything you’ve missed
If there’s anything you haven’t ticked off your Disney must-do list, then today is the day to do it. There are some amazing shows at Walt Disney World Resort, and you might not have had the chance to catch many of them yet.
Here are some not-to-be-missed shows:
Show | Where |
|---|---|
Festival Of The Lion King | Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park |
Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage | Disney’s Hollywood Studios |
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond! | Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park |
Indiana Jones™ Epic Stunt Spectacular! | Disney’s Hollywood Studios |
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration | Disney’s Hollywood Studios |
Top tip: Download the My Disney Experience app when you arrive in Orlando. The app has all the show times on it to help you plan your day.
Day 13 - Disney’s Hollywood Studios
There’s loads to do at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so we suggest spending some more time there during your holiday in Florida. As we’ve said above, there are many incredible shows to see here that wouldn’t look out of place on the West End, plus rides that you can’t miss, including fan favourite Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
If you fancy a gourmet meal, then stick around and head to The Hollywood Brown Derby and Lounge for dinner. Inspired by the famous restaurant in Hollywood, you can dine surrounded by portraits of stars from the golden era of cinema as you tuck into signature dishes like cobb salad and grapefruit cake.
Outside on the patio, you can enjoy an aperitif and an appetiser. Graze on a charcuterie board as you sip on a glass of wine and soak in the ambience of Old Hollywood.
Day 14 - Magic Kingdom Park
Spend your last day at Walt Disney World Resort in the fairy tale Magic Kingdom Park. It’s the park with the most rides, so there may be some you haven’t had the chance to go on yet - and some you want to ride again!
If you’ve yet to meet any of the Disney Characters, then today is the perfect opportunity to do this.
And if you haven’t seen it yet, the spectacular Happily Ever After fireworks display is the perfect way to end your time at Walt Disney World Resort. If you managed to watch the fireworks earlier on in your holiday, head home early for a good night’s sleep before you travel home tomorrow.
