Where is Disneyland Resort in California?
Disneyland California is located in Anaheim in Southern California, USA. It’s about an hour’s drive from downtown Los Angeles. It’s excellent as a stop on a Californian road trip or as a destination in itself.
Aside from Disneyland California, the surrounding area has lots of independent shops, hotels, and restaurants all within walking distance, so there’s plenty for you to choose from during your trip.

Weather at Disneyland California
The climate in Southern California, where you’ll find Disneyland California, is dry and mild, with cooler mornings and evenings. It has a dry climate with low humidity and experiences warm temperatures all year round. You may get the occasional rainy downpour during winter, but these usually pass quickly.
In summer, the average daily temperatures are between 19°C (66°F) and 29°C (84°F), while in winter, the temperatures can range from between 8°C (46°F) and 20°C (68°F). About Disneyland Resort in California
Disneyland California was the very first theme park opened by the Walt Disney Company. It was designed and constructed under the supervision of Walt Disney himself and opened on 17th July 1955.
Disneyland Resort in California covers 500 acres, so think of it as a more boutique version of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida (which takes up more than 27,000 acres!). It’s known as the place where the magic began, or The Happiest Place on Earth, and is a must-visit for anyone who loves Disney.
It’s also more than just one theme park. Disneyland California comprises two incredible theme parks, three hotels, plus a shopping and dining area. There’s something for every member of the family here, including thrill rides, slower-moving themed rides, stage shows, and spectacular night-time fireworks.
There are some rides you might recognise from the other Disney resorts, including Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “it’s a small world”, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. There’s also the famous daily Magic Happens Parade, which sees Disney Characters taking to colourful floats through Disneyland Park. You’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the Disney Characters, too, at meet and greets throughout the parks.
Disneyland California is a walkable resort, with Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney all close to each other and connected by the Esplanade. If you do decide to stay in an off-site hotel, a lot of these offer a shuttle service to the theme parks and Downtown Disney.
We recommend spending at least three days at Disneyland Resort in California to get the most out of the parks. You could visit for longer to take it at a more relaxed pace.
Disneyland Resort in California features:
- 2 theme parks – Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park
- Downtown Disney – an entertainment complex featuring shops and restaurants
- 3 hotels - Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Pixar Place Hotel

Once you’re in California, there are several ways to get to Disneyland California:
Disneyland California hotels
Next up on our list is one of the most important elements when booking any holiday – your accommodation. At Disneyland Resort in California, you can choose from staying at one of the on-site Disney hotels, off-site hotels, or accommodation rentals.
Staying at one of the Disney hotels gives you some fantastic benefits, including early entrance to the parks1. However, these hotels tend to be more expensive when compared to off-site hotels. Some of the off-site hotels in the area are also a shorter walking distance to the theme parks.
There are three Disney hotels to choose from at Disneyland California:
Disneyland California tickets
To save time and money, we recommend buying your Disneyland California tickets before your holiday. Buying in advance means you don’t need to go to the ticket office at the park to pick them up, and you’ll get the best deals.
You can choose from a Hopper ticket, which allows you to go between the two parks as you like, or a one park per day ticket, where you can just visit one park on each day.

This section of our guide will give you an idea of what to expect when you arrive in California and some top tips for making the most of your trip to Disneyland.

Download the Disneyland app
When you arrive in California, you can download the Disneyland app. It’s a one-stop shop for all the info you need once you’re in the parks. On the app, you can:
- Link tickets and passes
- Access park maps
- Make dining reservations
- Check park opening hours
- Check wait times for rides
- See show times
- Buy Lightning Lane passes (more on this later!)
- Enter virtual queues
- Order food and drinks

Top tip: Don’t forget to bring a power bank with you! You might find that you use your phone a lot during the day to access the app and take pictures, and you won’t want to run out of battery. A solar power bank is a great shout as it charges with the sun’s rays…and you’ll find quite a lot of sun in California!

Getting around during your trip
The entire Disneyland California resort, including the Disney hotels, is walkable. However, if you don’t want to or aren’t able to walk, there are some other transport options that you can take advantage of:
- Driving: If you’re arriving by car, park in the car park and then get on board one of the trams to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park
- Ride-share
- Public transport
Once you’re in the resort, you can hop on the Disneyland Monorail or Disneyland Railroad to get between the attractions. You can also ride down Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park in a streetcar or fire engine pulled by horses!
In Disney California Adventure Park, you can hail an all-electric trolley to four stops along Buena Vista Street.

Take full advantage of two theme parks!
Park | Description | Best for |

Buying a Lightning Lane pass is worth it if you only have limited time to spend in the Disney parks or if you want to tick off every ride.
