Disneyland Resort in California has two parks - Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park - and knowing how to split your time between them makes all the difference. Here’s how to plan your days, whatever your schedule.

Before you go - three things to sort
Book your park reservation
A ticket alone isn’t enough. You also need a park reservation for each day you visit. Link your tickets in the Disneyland app as soon as they land in your account, then book your reservations straight away. Ticket reservations can be made 180 days in advance. Popular dates fill up, so don’t leave it last-minute!
Download the Disneyland app
The official Disneyland app shows real-time wait times, lets you mobile order food at Quick-Service Restaurants (which cuts time spent in food queues significantly), and is where you’ll manage Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Have it set up before you land.
Commit to rope drop
Rope drop is the practice of arriving at the turnstiles 45-60 minutes before the park opens. Disneyland Resort lets guests in roughly 30 minutes early and holds them at ropes near the entrance hub. When those ropes drop, the first hour or two sees dramatically shorter wait times across the whole resort. On a short trip especially, this is the single most valuable thing you can do!

Most trips to Disneyland Resort in California involve travel from further afield, and a 1-Park Per Day ticket across two or more days is where most visitors get the best value and the most relaxing experience. It gives each Park the time it deserves, without the back-and-forth of hopping between the two.
A Park Hopper is worth adding if you’re visiting during Halloween, when Disney California Adventure Park closes early on Oogie Boogie Bash nights, or if a single day really is all you have.

The 2-day Disneyland Resort itinerary
A 2-Day 1-Park Per Day Ticket gives you one full, unhurried day in each park. Spend Day 1 at Disneyland Park - it has more to see and more evening entertainment - and Day 2 at Disney California Adventure Park.
Day 1 - Disneyland Park
Early morning
Arrive before opening and head to Fantasyland when the ropes drop. Peter Pan’s Flight consistently has the longest queue of any ride without Lightning Lane, so ride it first. Follow with “it’s a small world”, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which has a single-rider line that moves considerably faster than standby.
Mid-morning
Book Indiana Jones™ Adventure as your first Lightning Lane selection the moment you scan into the park. Head to Adventureland to ride it, then continue to New Orleans Square for Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, which has a new outdoor garden area as part of a recent expansion.
Late morning - Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge®
Enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge® and ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The new Mandalorian and Grogu mission makes the experience feel fresh, especially for Star Wars fans. Use the Lightning Lane Single Pass for Rise of the Resistance here - it’s a part-dark-ride, part-thrill trackless experience that’s a cut above anything else at the resort.
Lunch
Mobile order from Ronto Roasters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge® - the Ronto Wrap is one of the best Quick-Service options in either park. If you’ve booked Blue Bayou Restaurant in advance, this is where you’d use it: Table-Service dining inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, with Creole-inspired food and a bayou atmosphere that’s hard to beat.
Afternoon
Work through Frontierland and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure - the re-themed log flume based on The Princess and the Frog. If you’re travelling with little ones, build in time at Mickey’s Toontown: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a family-friendly trackless ride that works for all ages. Finish the afternoon with Space Mountain in Tomorrowland.
Evening
Head to Main Street, U.S.A. for the seasonal fireworks spectacular. The park feels different at night - take your time and enjoy it!
Top tip: If you’re visiting with kids, head back to the hotel for an afternoon break and return for the parade and fireworks. A short rest makes the difference between a calm evening and a very difficult one.
Day 2 - Disney California Adventure Park
Early morning
Head straight to Cars Land when the ropes drop. Radiator Springs Racers is a beautifully designed outdoor dark ride that finishes with a side-by-side race through the desert landscape. It draws the biggest rope-drop crowds in the park, so get there fast or pick up a Lightning Lane Single Pass. Once you’ve ridden it, take a moment to look around - Cars Land is one of the most convincingly themed areas in any Disney park.
Mid-morning - Avengers Campus
Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! uses a randomised lift sequence, so each ride feels slightly different. WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure is interactive and accessible for all ages - the little ones will especially love it! Both attractions build significant queues once the park gets busy, so tackle them before 11am if possible.
Late morning - Grizzly Peak
Soarin’ at Grizzly Peak is a hang-gliding simulator that works for almost every member of the family. It will become Soarin’ Across America from 2 July 2026 (for a limited time) with a new film celebrating the US 250th anniversary. Follow with Grizzly River Run if it’s a warm day - pack a dry bag, or accept that you’ll get soaked!
Lunch
Lamplight Lounge on Pixar Pier is the Table-Service highlight of Disney California Adventure Park - a relaxed gastropub overlooking Paradise Bay. Book ahead if you can. For a quicker option, Flo’s V8 Cafe in Cars Land serves solid comfort food.
Afternoon - Pixar Pier
Incredicoaster is the longest and fastest coaster at the resort, and the only one with a loop. Toy Story Midway Mania! is a 4D interactive shooting game. It’s competitive in a way that catches most people off guard. The Pixar Pal-A-Round Ferris wheel has the best views in the resort - choose the stationary gondola or the swinging version depending on how adventurous you’re feeling.
Evening
Return to Cars Land as the sun goes down. The neon lighting across Radiator Springs makes it one of the best sunset spots at either park. Stay for World of Color, a nighttime water, light, and projection show at Paradise Bay that rounds off a brilliant day.
The 3-day Disneyland Resort itinerary
Three days is the sweet spot, and the ideal length for a first visit. A 3-Day 1-Park Per Day Ticket lets you give Disneyland Park the two days it genuinely deserves, while still having a full day at Disney California Adventure Park. Follow the Day 2 itinerary above, then use Day 3 as follows:
Day 3 - Disneyland Park revisited
This is the day to do everything you loved again, and everything you didn’t quite get to on Day 1. There’s no need to rush. A Character Dining experience is worth building into the morning - Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn is the only character meal inside Disneyland Park itself, and it’s a great way to start the day. Check the schedule for the festival parade, take a slower walk through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge®, and spend the evening watching the fireworks without the pressure of a to-do list.

The 4- and 5-day Disneyland Resort itinerary
With a 4-Day ticket or 5-Day ticket, the pace changes completely. You can sleep in on some days, spend a morning at the hotel pool, and still see everything. A sensible shape for four days: two days at Disneyland Park, one at Disney California Adventure Park, and one flexible day to revisit wherever you want.

Is one day enough for Disneyland Resort in California?
If a multi-day trip isn’t on the cards this time, one day across both parks is still possible, but you’ll need to be selective. A Disneyland Resort in California 1-Day Park Hopper Ticket and Lightning Lane Multi Pass give you the best shot. Focus on the rides that are unique to Disneyland Resort - you can always do the classics another time, but Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, and Cars Land are worth prioritising above everything else.
Morning - start at Disney California Adventure Park
Head to Cars Land at rope drop and ride Radiator Springs Racers first. It draws the biggest early crowds in the park. Move straight to Avengers Campus for Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! and WEBSLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. Both build long queues once the park fills up.
Midday - hop to Disneyland Park
Cross the esplanade to Disneyland Park and go straight to Adventureland. Indiana Jones™ Adventure is the priority here - a thrilling jeep ride through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. Follow with Pirates of the Caribbean, which is longer and more detailed than any other version of the ride in the world. Mobile order lunch so you’re not losing time in a food queue.
Afternoon - Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge®
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge® is the must-see land at Disneyland Park. Ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run - a new storyline featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu launched in May 2026. If you’ve secured a Lightning Lane Single Pass for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, use it now. It’s the best ride at the resort by some distance. If time allows, Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are both worth a visit.
Evening - fireworks
Find a spot on Main Street, U.S.A. for the seasonal fireworks show. Evening queues tend to be shorter than the afternoon, so squeeze in one more ride after the show if you’ve got energy left.
Top tip: On a single day, you will miss things. Accept it upfront and you’ll enjoy the day far more. Prioritise what’s exclusive to Disneyland Resort and save the classics for a return trip.
