If you’re visiting New York, you can’t miss that shot of the epic New York skyline. There are plenty of places to take in breath-taking views of New York though, so if you’re looking for the crème-de-la-crème of New York skyline shots, make sure to read on…
1. Empire State Building
If the 86th floor of New York’s most iconic landmark isn’t a good place to start, we don’t know where is! The top floor of the Empire State Building rises more than 440m into the sky, offering a 360⁰ panoramic view of the city from the observation deck, including the whole of Manhattan, the Hudson river and even 4 other states outside of New York on a clear day! Make sure to book in advance to skip the lines and save money!
2. Top of the Rock
Of course, if you’re admiring the view from the top of the Empire State Building, there’s one very iconic landmark you won’t be able to see…the Empire State Building itself! If you want to catch a glimpse of this incredible landmark from a good perspective, we’d recommend booking tickets for The Top of the Rock experience after dark. Lit up, the Empire State Building is even more spectacular and is definitely worth a visit.
3. Liberty Island
Although not a view from above, the sight of Manhattan from Liberty Island is definitely one not to miss. Not only will you get to enjoy stunning views of the city’s skyline, you’ll also be able to visit another of New York’s iconic landmarks, the Statue of Liberty, at the same time. The trip to the island is by boat, offering you the opportunity to see New York from all angles and take plenty of photos too.
4. From a Helicopter
One of the best ways to get an uninterrupted view of the city (and feel like a VIP doing it!) is from a bright red Liberty helicopter. This once-in-a-life time experience takes you over the iconic skyline on a 12-15 minute tour, taking in birds-eye views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis and Governors Island and past Manhattan's epic skyscrapers. It’s truly one of the best ways to see New York, so consider treating yourself to this VIP experience.
5. The Top of the Strand

If you’d prefer to take in the views with a drink in hand, the rooftop bar on top of the Strand Hotel boasts uninterrupted views of the Empire State Building and first come first served front row seats to the sights. There’s a retractable glass roof that makes the bar suitable for all weathers, so don’t worry if you’re visiting in winter, you’ll still be cosy! Cocktails start at $15 and beers are around $9 a bottle, so it’s not cheap, but it is a romantic way to end your holiday on a high.
6. One World Observatory
The newly-opened One World Observatory is the tallest building in the Western hemisphere and promises stunning views over New York. Again, the observation deck at the top of the observatory offers a 360⁰ panoramic view of the landmarks of this famous city, and you might even spot one of those helicopter tours or two from your elevated position high in the clouds! One World also offers guests the oportunity to enjoy a 3D screening demonstrating the buzz of the Big Apple and its unique personality - don't miss it!
