Heading to Dubai?
Don't leave home without our guide to visiting one of Dubai's top attractions!

Thinking of visiting the Burj Khalifa? Don’t leave home until you have read this guide and, of course, have your Burj Khalifa tickets in hand!  In this guide, we’ll look at the record-breaking numbers behind the Burj Khalifa’s architecture, what happens when you visit this jaw-dropping Dubai attraction and the dress code for the Burj Khalifa.

The Burj Khalifa is one of the most popular and iconic tourist attractions in Dubai due to its sheer size and scale – you really can’t miss it! It was finished and opened to the public in 2010 and is showing no signs of slowing down in terms of its popularity with visitors. Located in an area called Downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa building dwarfs everything around it, but what are the real numbers behind it?

The numbers

The Burj Khalifa holds no less than 15 world records, including the tallest existing structure, longest travelling escalator, highest observation deck and the highest nightclub and restaurant! On New Year’s Eve, the Burj Khalifa displays the world’s highest fireworks display.  With its antenna included, it stands at a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) and the observation deck, where your Burj Khalifa tickets take you, is an incredible 452 m (1,483 ft) in the air, making it the tallest observation deck in the world.

To build this incredible structure, you need a lot of resources! That’s over 110,000 tonnes of concrete, 31,000 tonnes of steel rebar, 26,000 glass panels and 22 million man-hours to build (as well as 36 window cleaners to keep all that glass clean!).

The experience

On arrival, you’ll exchange your pre-booked Burj Khalifa voucher for the tickets at the Burj Khalifa attraction itself. Ticket in hand, you’ll hop into the high-speed elevator and zip up the 124th floor Observation Deck at a speed of 10 metres per second – making quick work of your ascent into the heavens!

When you reach the observation deck, called At the Top (which is actually on the 124th floor!) you’ll be treated to 360⁰ panoramic views over Dubai from one of the best vantage points in town. You'll then have 90 minutes to soak up the views or just relax on the soft furnishings if the heights get a little dizzying for you! In general, most visitors spend around an hour visiting the Burj Khalifa.

Zoom in on the earth and attractions below you using the touch screen cameras dotted around the room or, if you dare, look up at the incredible 400 metres of the Burj still towering above you! The observation is so high up that you’ll experience temperatures 15°c cooler than those at the bottom – which we think is pretty cool.

The dress code

There is no specific dress code for the Burj Khalifa observation deck, but it is advisable to dress modestly throughout Dubai. If you wish to visit the Burj Khalifa’s restaurant, SKY, more formal dress including shirts and shoes for men is a must.

The insider tips

The Burj Khalifa is a hugely popular attraction so one of our best tips is to BOOK EARLY! And we mean really early. If you have a specific date in mind, make sure to book as soon as you can in order to secure the visit time you’d like.

The most popular times to visit are between 3 and 8pm but we would highly recommend visiting during sunset – this is definitely the best time to visit the Burj Khalifa. The sun sets in Dubai between 6:50pm and 8:40pm depending on the time of year, so check ahead and book a slot 60-90 minutes before hand in order to get the most out of the view!

Ticket prices vary depending on the time of day you want to go. If you’re on a budget, choose an off-peak ticket – you’ll pay much less for the same great views!

Planning your visit

The Burj Khalifa is open from 5am on weekends and 8am on weekdays until midnight, with last entry 45 minutes prior to closing. If you have a pre-booked time, make sure you arrive on time as you may not be allowed to enter if you miss it!

To get to the Burj Khalifa, head to the lower ground level of the Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai (Metro stop Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall #25). It’s a 10-minute walk from the station but don’t worry, you can’t miss it!

Alternatively, you can take a taxi to the attraction from wherever you are in Dubai. Remember, taxis are metered in Dubai so you won’t need to haggle on the price, but traffic in the city can be very bad so this will definitely be a more expensive option.
