Our guide to London Life of Churchill & WW II

Travel back in time to wartime London as you follow in the footsteps of Winston Churchill, from street level down to his legendary War Rooms. This massive underground network was the site of countless historic decisions and moments during the war, and this tour will provide you with all the context you need to fully appreciate them (and pre-reserved tickets, too, of course). You'll also follow your expert guide to several of London's top WWII-related sites, including the Battle of Britain Monument, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, and Whitehall. Along the way, you'll hear gripping stories of the British people's resilience and Churchill's defining leadership.

Your journey begins at the Battle of Britain Monument, where you’ll hear how Churchill’s powerful speeches inspired Britain during its darkest days. Then it's on to the nearby Boudica Statue, a symbol of resilience that Churchill often referenced in his own calls for strength.

No London walking tour would be complete without a stop at Big Ben, where you'll discover how the famous clock tower survived bomb damage and became a symbol of hope. Across the square, marvel at the Houses of Parliament and the Churchill Statue, where your guide will recount stories of Churchill’s wartime leadership and efforts to preserve British democracy during the Blitz.

From there, you'll pause briefly at Westminster Abbey (exterior only) and visit Downing Street, where Churchill strategized during the war. Stroll along Whitehall, lined with war-related landmarks, before pausing at the Horse Guards Parade to learn about Churchill’s connection to this historic site. You’ll also visit the Guards Memorial, which honors those who served during WWII.

Last but not least, you’ll take a step away from London's hustle and bustle into the city's wartime days. Churchill’s War Rooms, a network of hidden underground bunkers, are where he made crucial decisions that crushed Nazi advancements during World War II—and remain untouched since 1945. With an audio guide allowing you to peruse the site at your own space, you'll immerse yourself in British history as you explore Churchill's private office, the map room, and more of the rooms where history was made.
