Orlando's theme parks pack a lot into a single day, and a little help on your phone goes a long way. Booking your Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Universal Orlando tickets is only the start. The right free apps can save you time, help you find your way around and keep your holiday budget on track too!
We've rounded up the best free apps for your 2026/2027 Orlando trip, plus the official park apps and handy extras for splitting bills and dodging Florida's afternoon downpours. Here's what to download before you go.
Quick summary:
- My Disney Experience and The Official Universal Orlando Resort App are still the two essential downloads, and both remain completely free to use.
- Universal's newest park, Epic Universe, doesn't need a separate app - it's covered in the same Universal Orlando Resort App.
- Lightning Lane (Walt Disney World Resort) can only be booked once you've landed in the US, so it's worth setting a reminder for the 7am Eastern booking window.
- Splitwise's free tier now caps you at three expenses a day, so budget-conscious groups may hit that limit quickly on a longer trip.
- Lyft and Uber both operate across Orlando, with Lyft the only way to book Disney's Minnie Van Service.

My Disney Experience App - the official app for Walt Disney World Resort
The official Walt Disney World Resort app is still called My Disney Experience, and it remains the single most useful download for anyone visiting the resort. It hasn't been renamed or replaced - you may have heard rumours of a unified "Disney" app, but Walt Disney World Resort continues to run on My Disney Experience.
Link your park tickets, book dining reservations, check live wait times and find your way around all four theme parks and two water parks with the built-in map! You can also buy Lightning Lane (Disney's current skip-the-line system), order food ahead through Mobile Order and even use your phone as your room key at select resort hotels.
Disney announced a redesign of the app in May 2026, adding an AI-powered search tool, a trip checklist and a new plan-sharing feature called Trip Party. This is rolling out gradually, so you won't see every new feature yet - Walt Disney World Resort is getting them first, ahead of other Disney resorts.
Helen Neale from Kiddy Charts told us how the My Disney Experience app enhanced her family’s trip to Walt Disney World Resort.
“We used the My Disney Experience app for two things: to find Hidden Mickeys and to navigate around the park. We found it really helpful for finding restaurants and finding out live queue times for some of the popular rides within the park. It really helped us minimise the time we spent queuing as we were able to check the queue time of a ride before making our way across the parks. The kids also made a fun game of guessing the queue times while we were waiting for other rides.”
Family travel blogger Shel O’Connor from The Willow Tree also recommends the app for visitors to the park
“We relied on the My Disney Experience app so much - it literally updates you on everything including when rides are down, wait times, where restaurants and attractions are and even bus times! We also loved being able to see our PhotoPass pictures in the app (and edit them)! You can book and amend your restaurant reservations too which was super helpful. Would fully recommend this app if you’re visiting Walt Disney World.”
One tip worth knowing before you fly: Lightning Lane can only be booked once you're in the US, and the booking window opens at 7am Eastern Time. That's midday UK time, so it's worth setting a reminder if there's a specific ride your family has set their heart on.

The Official Universal Orlando Resort™ App
The Official Universal Orlando Resort™ App covers everything at the resort, including Universal's newest park, Epic Universe.
The app gives you live wait times, an interactive map, mobile food ordering, dining reservations and the ability to buy Universal Express Passes once you've scanned into a park for the day. It also handles the virtual queue system used for some of Epic Universe's busiest rides.
Amy Stevenson, travel and family blogger at Smith Little Life, told us what she loved about the app when visiting Universal Orlando with her family.
“We used The Official Universal Resort™ App at Universal Orlando and found it really useful. We were able to check ride wait times at a glance and find places to eat close to our location on the map. As we went during the summer, when thunderstorms are more common, it was great to be able to check if certain rides were open before leaving the villa. If the ones we wanted to go on were closed due to weather, this meant we were able to change our plans and delay heading into the parks.”

Is there an app for SeaWorld Orlando?
Yes! SeaWorld's app is now simply called SeaWorld, and it's worth downloading before your visit whether it's your first trip or your fifth. It's no longer branded as the "Discovery Guide" app, though the core features are much the same.
Downloading the SeaWorld app is highly recommended. It has real-time ride wait times, showtimes for the park's live shows and an interactive map to help you find your way between rollercoasters and the orca and dolphin displays. You can also use it to buy in-park upgrades such as Quick Queue and reserved show seating.

Other essential free apps for your Orlando theme park holiday
What free apps help with Orlando's weather?
Florida's theme parks see near-daily thunderstorms through the summer months, often arriving in the afternoon and clearing within the hour. A weather app makes it much easier to plan around them rather than around them.
MyRadar gives you a fast, full-screen radar view so you can see a storm coming and time your next ride or lunch stop accordingly. Download the MyRadar app now for iOS or Android.
For something more locally focused, Florida Storms - built by Florida's public radio network - adds official National Weather Service alerts alongside its radar. Download the Florida Storms app now for iOS or Android.
What's the best free app for converting currency in Orlando?
Keeping track of what you're spending in dollars is easier with a currency converter to hand, especially over a two-week trip. XE Currency is free, works offline and covers live GBP/USD rates, so you can check a price at the till without needing signal! Download the XE Currency app now for iOS or Android.
What's the best app for splitting the bill in Orlando?
Splitwise remains a well-known name for splitting costs between friends and family, whether that's a shared villa, a round of theme park meals or a rideshare home. The free version now limits you to three expenses a day, with a short cooldown between each entry and some in-app ads. Unlimited expenses and receipt scanning sit behind Splitwise Pro, a paid subscription.
For a family logging several costs a day across a two-week holiday, that daily cap is worth knowing about before you rely on it.
By logging your purchases in a shared group, everyone in your party can see who's paid for what and settle up when you're ready. It even accounts for different currencies, which is handy on a US trip!
Dalma Diószegi, travel blogger at Come Away With Me, told us how useful Splitwise has been for her when travelling with friends and family.
“I have used Splitwise with my housemates and it came especially useful when we were trying to split bills and keep track of who owes who. I also used it for splitting holiday expenditures and booking costs for friends and family. When someone adds an expense, it always comes up as a notification, so you can sort it as soon as possible without having to make anyone wait. It’s super user-friendly too - showing your balance and letting you settle up with whoever you owe money to easily.”

What's a fun app for deciding which ride to go on first?
Random Ride Picker takes the debate out of deciding where to head first. Select your park, shake your phone and a ride is picked for you at random - a nice way to settle a family disagreement fairly!
You can also edit the ride list to remove anything unsuitable for younger children, too far to walk to, or simply not to your taste.
Download Random Ride Picker now for iOS or Android.
What's the best free app for getting around Orlando?
When it comes to transport, you'll want to get from A to B at the push of a button, especially with tired little ones in tow. Two rideshare apps are worth having installed: Lyft and Uber.
Lyft
Lyft is the app behind Minnie Van Service, Disney's own fleet of cast-member-driven vehicles that can pick you up or drop you off anywhere on Walt Disney World property, complete with a complimentary child car seat on request. Minnie Van Service is confirmed running in 2026, though it costs noticeably more than a standard rideshare - we recommend budgeting for a higher fare than you'd pay with a regular Lyft or Uber journey. Pricing varies by distance and time of day, so check the app for a live quote before booking.
Jane Duckworth, blogger at Jane’s World and Disney Parks Moms Panellist, told us why Lyft is especially worth downloading for getting around Walt Disney World.
“I highly recommend downloading the Lyft app. Via this awesome carshare-style app, guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort can utilise the pay-per-use Disney Minnie Van Service through Lyft to drive them around the resort like VIPs, picking-up or dropping-off to any destination on Disney property. It's an absolute lifesaver!”
Download Lyft for iOS or Android here.
Uber
Uber is Universal Orlando's official rideshare partner, with a dedicated pick-up and drop-off point at the resort. It's a solid alternative to Lyft across Orlando more generally, particularly if you're comparing prices between the two before booking a journey.
