Loews Royal Pacific Resort – Courtyard
Early entry, free transport, and the chance to skip the biggest queues in Orlando - here's what staying on-site at Universal actually gets you.
Staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel comes with perks no off-site property can match, including Early Park Admission to all four parks and free resort transport from every tier. This guide breaks down every benefit, compares the hotel tiers, and helps you decide which approach suits your family best.

Quick answer:

Yes - for most UK families visiting this year or next, staying on-site at Universal Orlando Resort is worth the extra cost. Every on-site Universal hotel includes Early Park Admission to all four parks and free resort transport, both of which make a genuine, daily difference to how your trip runs.

The bigger question is which hotel. If you book one of the three hotels that includes free Universal Express Unlimited (Hard Rock Hotel®, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel or Loews Royal Pacific Resort) that on-site premium often pays for itself compared to buying Express separately for a family of four.

The only situation where off-site might be more convenient is if you’re visiting for one day only, or you’re combining Universal with a longer road trip and need the flexibility of a car and your own base.

Still weighing it up? Here’s the full breakdown of what you get, which hotels offer more, and how to choose the right one for your family.

What do you get for staying on-site?

Every one of Universal Orlando’s on-site hotels - across the Value, Prime and Signature tiers - comes with a set of perks that off-site guests simply don’t have access to, regardless of how close to the resort they’re staying.

Early Park Admission - the biggest benefit!

Early Park Admission lets on-site hotel guests into the parks up to one hour before they open to the general public. This applies across all four of Universal’s theme parks: Universal Studios FloridaUniversal’s Islands of AdventureUniversal Volcano Bay, and Universal Epic Universe.

An hour might not sound life-changing, but at a busy theme park, it’s the difference between walking straight onto a headline ride and joining a two-hour standby queue. That first hour, before day guests arrive, is when the biggest rides are most manageable. On-site guests get it every single day of their stay!

It’s also worth knowing that Early Park Admission at Epic Universe currently works differently to the other parks. Unlike Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, annual passholders don’t get Early Park Admission to Epic Universe. For now, it’s an exclusive hotel-guest benefit, which gives it real weight.

Free transport throughout the resort

All on-site hotel guests travel between their hotel, the parks, and Universal CityWalk at no cost - by water taxi, or shuttle bus, depending on the hotel. Buses run continuously from around an hour before Early Park Admission starts through to after the parks close, with no need to book. A dedicated busway also connects the CityWalk hub to the Epic Universe campus.

Off-site guests need to drive (and also pay for parking), take an Uber or Lyft, or rely on partner hotel shuttles with fixed departure times. On busy mornings, particularly around Early Park Admission time, that difference in ease and predictability definitely shows.

Shop without carrying bags

Purchases made at select Universal-operated shops in the theme parks and at CityWalk can be delivered directly to your on-site hotel room, free of charge! That means you can pick up a souvenir at 10am and find it waiting in your room at the end of the day, with no bags to lug around the parks.

Your room key as a resort payment card

On-site guests can charge purchases across the entire resort - parks, restaurants, CityWalk - directly to their room key. It’s a small convenience that adds up on a busy family trip. One less thing to think about when you’re in full park mode.

Which hotels include Express Pass?

Free Universal Express Unlimited is available at exactly three hotels: Hard Rock Hotel®, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort. It’s not included at any other on-site Universal hotel, including Loews Sapphire Falls and Universal Helios Grand Hotel, despite both being Signature properties.

Express Unlimited lets your whole group skip the regular standby queue at the majority of rides at Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure, as many times as you like. It’s valid for every guest in your room on every day of your stay!

For a family of four, that cost adds up fast. The smart move is to compare the nightly rate of one of the three Express hotels against what you’d pay at a Value or Prime hotel, then add the cost of buying Express Unlimited separately for your party. In many cases, especially in shoulder season, the Signature hotel with Express included works out cheaper overall, or very close to it.

Worth knowing: Express Unlimited doesn’t cover Universal Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. It applies to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure only, regardless of which hotel you book.

Take advantage of the kids’ suites

If you’re travelling with children, it’s worth knowing that several Universal hotels offer dedicated kids’ suites. These are rooms with a separate sleeping area for the children, themed around popular Universal franchises. Adults get a king-size bedroom with an ensuite. The kids’ section has its own twin beds and themed decor, with only the adults’ room having external corridor access.

That’s a combination that’s hard to beat for a family with little ones who want both the themed experience and fast access to the rides!

What Epic Universe changes about your planning

Epic Universe is Universal’s fourth Florida theme park that opened in May 2025. It’s home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk, and more. It’s changed the shape of a Universal Orlando trip considerably.

Most families visiting in 2026 are planning across four parks, often over a week or more. That’s significantly more time on-site than people were spending two or three years ago, which means the daily value of Early Park Admission, free transport, and resort convenience compounds across the whole trip.

Celestial Park

Three new hotels opened alongside Epic Universe, each with a specific relationship to the new park:

Universal Helios Grand Hotel (Signature)

Helios Grand is the standout for Epic Universe. It’s Universal’s first hotel situated within a theme park, and comes with a dedicated private entrance directly into Epic Universe - opening into Celestial Park, near The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic.

Guests can access this entrance before Early Park Admission officially begins, meaning you’re already positioned inside the park before the main gates open. Please note: it doesn’t include free Express Unlimited, despite being a Signature hotel.

Universal Stella Nova Resort (Prime)

Stella Nova has a dedicated walking path to Epic Universe of around ten minutes, plus a complimentary shuttle. Its space-inspired theming and two pools make it a strong choice for families who want walkable access to Epic Universe without Helios Grand’s Signature price tag.

Universal Terra Luna Resort (Prime)

Terra Luna is Stella Nova’s sister hotel on the Epic campus. The walk to the park is around 15-20 minutes by the less direct route, or a quick shuttle ride. Both Stella Nova and Terra Luna offer good value for Epic Universe-focused trips.

What is it like to stay off-site at Universal Orlando?

Off-site hotels cluster along International Drive and around Universal Boulevard - some within a mile of the resort entrance - and they can be considerably cheaper. What you lose is harder to put a number on in advance but tends to become apparent once you’re there:

  • Without Early Park Admission, you arrive at the same time as everyone else on the busiest mornings.
  • Without continuous resort transport, you’re deciding whether to drive (and pay for parking), Uber, or catch a partner hotel shuttle at a fixed time.
  • Without room charging, you’re carrying payment all day.
  • And at the end of a long day on your feet - easily 20,000 steps at a theme park - having to organise transport back is more tiring than you’d expect.

Which approach is right for you - on-site or off-site?

If queues stress you out and the original parks are your priority

Book one of the three Express Unlimited hotels for your Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure days. Hard Rock Hotel® is the closest walk to the parks; Loews Royal Pacific Resort tends to offer the most competitive rates of the three in shoulder season; Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is the most upscale of the trio. Combine the Express Unlimited Pass with Early Park Admission and you’ve got the strongest possible setup for a high-ride-count visit!

If you’re covering all four parks across a week

A split stay is worth considering. A few nights at one of the three Express Unlimited hotels for your Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure days, then a move to one of the Epic Universe campus hotels for the rest, gives you the best of both worlds. It takes a little more organisation, but lets you tailor the accommodation to the parks rather than compromising across the whole trip.

If you’re travelling with little ones

A themed kids’ suite at Hard Rock, Portofino Bay or Royal Pacific ticks multiple boxes at once. Separate sleeping spaces for the children, franchise theming they’ll love, and free Express Unlimited included. Check which themes are available when you’re booking as they’re popular and can book up early!

If budget is the priority

A Value hotel - Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort or either of the Endless Summer properties - still gets you Early Park Admission and free transport. The gap between a well-priced on-site room and a nearby off-site hotel of comparable standard is often smaller than it first appears once you factor in parking costs. You won’t have free Express Pass, but Early Park Admission gives you a meaningful head start every morning across all four parks.

So… is on-site worth it?

Yes! Staying on-site at Universal Orlando Resort is definitely worth it for most UK families visiting this year or next. The combination of a guaranteed hour’s head start across all four parks every morning, seamless resort transport, and the option of free Express Unlimited at three hotels adds up to something that drastically changes the tempo of a theme park holiday.

The main variable is whether you’re booking one of the three hotels that includes free Express Pass. If you are, the maths often favours the on-site option over buying Express separately. If you’re not, the decision for on-site rests on Early Park Admission, convenience, and the experience of being at the heart of the resort rather than travelling in from outside each day.
