Maximise your time in Poland with the ultimate historical combination. This day trip begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel. You will experience both The Guided Tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau and The Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour in a single day—making this the perfect choice for those with a limited schedule in Krakow who want to explore two of Poland’s most profound UNESCO-listed sites in total comfort.
Our guide to Auschwitz and Wieliczka Salt Mine in One Day with Hotel Pick-up
Your day begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel for a guided visit to Auschwitz, where approximately 1.5 million people were killed during WWII's Holocaust. Today, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it poignantly commemorates the lives of those who died within its walls and fences and is a must-visit for all.
Visit Auschwitz I—the administrative centre of the Auschwitz death camp—and Auschwitz II, designed and constructed as an execution facility. Comprising approximately 150 buildings and 300 ruins, the Martyrdom Museum still features the original roads, fences, watchtowers, and railway ramps. You will also have the opportunity to see an original collection of exhibits and documents. As you pay tribute to victims and survivors, your expert guide will sensitively portray the history of the site, ensuring you leave with a much greater understanding of these key events.
After the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, you will be driven directly to the Wieliczka Salt Mine. One of the oldest salt mines in Europe, this ancient UNESCO World Heritage site is a labyrinth of tunnels carved from salt blocks. The tourist trail now consists of 20 monumental chambers joined by 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometres) of pathways, stretching over 9 levels and descending 1,075 feet (327 meters) below the surface.
Your guided tour takes you from 210 to 440 feet (approximately 64 to 135 meters) down, passing through galleries and chambers where traces of mining activity are preserved. Discover examples of sacred art and see The Chapel of the Blessed Kinga—a huge, underground church where everything from the chandeliers to the altarpieces has been chiselled out of salt.
It is a long day fitting two tours in, but a truly unforgettable experience that allows you more time during your stay to explore what else Krakow has to offer.
Please note: Due to availability, bookings must be made outside of 4 weeks prior to the date of tour.
