UPDATED: Everything We Know About Star Wars Land
All the exciting details for Star Wars Land!
Calling all Star Wars fans! Here’s everything you NEED to know about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge…

If you’re as excited as we are for the opening of Disney’s new Star Wars Land, you’ll already be counting down the days until the grand opening. But, when exactly will that be and what will it look like? There are so many things we want to know about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and we’re sure you’ve got lots of questions too. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to everything we know about Star Wars Land so far…

What is the official name for Star Wars land?

The official name for Disney Star Wars land is Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Bob Chapek, Disney chairman, indicated that the name was chosen to reflect the fact that the new land "will introduce you to a Star Wars planet you've never seen before — a gateway planet located on the outer rim, full of places and characters familiar and not so familiar."

When is Star Wars Land opening?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World on August 29th, 2019. During the inital opening, entrance is not guaranteed and Disney's Fastpass+ service will not be available for the Star Wars attractions so we highly recommend staying on-site at a Disney Resort Hotel to give you the best chance of getting on these attractions first!

If you just can’t wait that long, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Star Wars expansion at the Disneyland Resort in California will be opening earlier in staged phases. The new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land is opening on May 31st, 2019 with the opening of the Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open on January 17th 2020.

Depsite opening after Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will actually be getting Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance first. The ride will open on December 5th 2019, over a month before the California version.

It will be HUGE!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be Disney’s largest ever single-themed expansion, covering an impressive 14-acres! This huge land will transport you to a galaxy far, far away, giving you the chance to step inside the movies and discover the incredible world of Star Wars. Click here to see a to-scale model of the land.  The land will be split into two distinct areas - Black Spire Outpost and Resistance Forest.

There will be TWO main attractions

Star Wars Land

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will have two main attractions and a visit wouldn’t be complete until you’ve tried them both. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run lets you take control of the iconic Millennium Falcon space craft. You’ll be in the pilot’s seat as you speed through hyperspace on a critical mission. The new attraction will be built to scale at 11-foot-long and will only be visible once you turn the corner into the new land, making sure it provides the perfect 'WOW' moment. There will be a non-traditional queueing area with plenty of interactive exhibits for guests to enjoy before getting their chance to pilot the Falcon themselves.

Next, experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, where you’ll find yourself right in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. These fantastic rides are not to be missed! Check out this blog post on Star Wars land's attractions to see videos of the new rides.

It’s set on the Planet Batuu

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be set on the Planet Batuu, which Disney have described as a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge. They revealed that the planet was once a “busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel”.

Now, Batuu has become a thriving port for smugglers and rogue traders, as well as those avoiding the reach of the First Order. While this unique planet is new to us, it’s a place that Star Wars characters know well, so you can expect to see lots of familiar faces on your travels.

The village is called Black Spire Outpost

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set on the Planet Batuu, but the village you’ll actually be able to explore during your visit is called Black Spire Outpost. This is the largest settlement on Batuu. The fact that this outpost is off the beaten path makes it the perfect place for smugglers to hide. In fact, Black Spire Outpost has become notorious for the colourful characters that call this place home.

The landscape is covered with the remains of the outpost’s once towering ancient trees. These spires now stand guard across the plains and river valleys and are symbolic to this breath-taking village. The area will be littered with ships from various movies in the franchise including a TIE fighter but, don't get too close, unless you want to be warned off by angry Storm Troopers!

You’ll be able to meet your favourite characters

Star Wars Land meet Kylo Ren

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll have the chance to meet some of your favourite Star Wars characters but be prepared for a standoff with some of the saga’s most famous villains too! Make friends with the lovable Chewbacca, say hello to BB-8 and come face to face with the evil Kylo Ren – if you’re brave enough that is! Look out for Stormtroopers patrolling the park too because they’re always on the lookout for recruits.

As well as these famous faces there will be a number of weird and wonderful creatures from Batuu to contend with,.

There will be a cantina where you can try Blue Milk and 4 other dining locations

Star Wars Land Oga's Cantina

When you’re feeling hungry, Oga’s Cantina will be the place to go. This new restaurant will be serving up some unique Star Wars-inspired food and drink, including the famous Blue Milk! This quirky cantina is known for serving bounty hunters, smugglers, locals and galactic travellers, so you can expect to see lots of unique characters who have some very interesting stories to tell. Keep a look out because you never know when a Stormtrooper will show up!

Music will be provided by a DJ that you might just recognise from Star Tours. RX-24 (the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid) will be taking to the decks to keep you entertained during your visit.

As well as Oga's Cantina, there will be two more restaurants to try out in the new land. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo will be dishing up exotic flavours and unusual dishes under the watchful eye of Chef Strono "cookie" Tuggs, who has travelled through the galaxy to bring you the best of the universes' food, which he has named "Tugg's Grub".  Meanwhile over at Ronto's Roasters, exotic meats are roasted over recycled pod racing engines by former smelter droid, 8D-J8.

For drinks and snacks in the new land, don't miss the Milk Stand, where you can pick up - you guessed it - that infamous blue and green milk, direct from Bubo Wamba Family Farms, and Kat Saka's Kettle, which will sell 'Outpost Mix' (an enticing mix of sweet, savoury and spicy popcorn).

You can explore a unique marketplace

Star Wars Land marketplace

The new Star Wars expansion will feature a fantastic marketplace where you will find exclusive Star Wars merchandise that isn’t available anywhere else in the world. So, if you want to pick up some souvenirs, this is the best place to go.

Disney Imagineers have taken inspiration for the marketplace from the exotic markets of Marrakech and Istanbul. There will be a range of shops and stalls, where you can pick up mysterious objects and fun toys straight out of the Star Wars galaxy. One of the stalls will be run by a Toydarian- a winged creature fans were first introduced to in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Make sure you stop by to say hello.

Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities is the place to go to haggle for rare and uniquely-valued items from across the galaxy while the First Order Cargo will help with all your supplies needs for everyone coming to Black Spire Outpost. For souvenir pins, food and other itrems, head to Resistance Supply or, to create your own souvenirs to take home with you don't miss Droid Depot where visitors to Mubo's workshop can fashion their own individual astromech droids to accompany them on their journey onwards.

For the ultimate Star Wars fan though, Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsaber is the place to be. With the guidance of a workshop master, visitors can gain the knowledge of the Jedi lore and the Force to build and customise their own lightsabers. Don't miss it!

There’s going to be a Star Wars Hotel!

Star Wars Hotel

That’s right, an entire hotel inspired by Star Wars will soon be opening at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and we can’t wait! This one-of-a-kind hotel will be totally different to anything you’ve experienced before. From the moment you step inside the hotel, you’ll be immersed into the action-packed world of Star Wars.

You’ll be a key part of the story as you become a resident of the galaxy, dress in the proper Star Wars attire and embark on your own thrilling adventure through space. You’ll find yourself amongst iconic characters in an unbelievable environment where every single room offers a view of space through the window!

Although the Star Wars hotel will be outside the park, it can still be classed as part of this new Star Wars expansion as your hotel experience will seamlessly connect to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park. There is no official opening date for this amazing hotel just yet, but we’re sure it won’t be long before we hear more news. Make sure you keep checking our blog to stay up to date.
