Walt Disney World Resort thrill seeker itinerary - two weeks

From whizzing around a roller coaster track to dropping 13 floors in a haunted elevator, here’s how to spend an action-packed two weeks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Day 1 - Arrive and chill out

We know you’re absolutely chomping at the bit to get going, but on your first day in Orlando, we suggest that you put your feet up and relax. There’s plenty of time for exciting adventures ahead, so there’s no need to rush into it.

Once you’ve checked into your hotel, you can spend some time around the pool recovering from your long-haul flight and adjusting to the time difference - Orlando is five hours behind the UK, so it can take a bit of getting used to.

If you’re staying in one of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels, you can grab a laid-back bite to eat here this evening and enjoy the entertainment on offer.

If you really can’t wait until tomorrow, visit one of the theme parks this afternoon - your 14-day ticket means you can visit whichever parks you like during these two weeks.

Top tip: Our top tip for battling jetlag and getting on Orlando time is to stay up until your normal bedtime.

Day 2 - EPCOT

The first theme park on the itinerary is EPCOT, the park that immerses you in innovation, science, and culture. Not only can you learn more about the world around you here, but there are also some unbelievable thrill rides here, including one of the most intense in the whole of Walt Disney World Resort, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

When you arrive at EPCOT, start by checking the queue times for the thrill rides and begin with the shortest wait time first.

After the rides, stick around for Luminous The Symphony of Us, a night time show featuring fireworks, fountains, lights, and some of your favourite Disney songs.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

This indoor roller coaster is themed around the MARVEL Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. It has the first-ever reverse launch on a Disney attraction and is one of the longest inside roller coasters in the world.

Test Track Presented by Chevrolet

Test Track Presented by Chevrolet gives you the chance to design your own custom concept vehicle and then take it on an exciting test drive. The track is almost 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) long, and cars will reach a speed of up to 65 miles per hour (105 kilometres per hour).

You’ll fly through straightaways, switchbacks, banks, and up hills on a driving adventure. Oh, and don’t worry - you don’t need a driving licence to ride this one.

Mission: SPACE

Find out what it’s like to be an astronaut on a simulated space launch. There are two missions to choose from: Green Mission and Orange Mission. Those who want the most intense experience (we’re looking at you!) should choose the Orange Mission to launch a rocket to Mars!

Day 3 - Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There are five incredible heart-pumping rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, making it one of the best Disney Parks for daredevils. Each ride offers a completely different experience, so you won’t be able to get complacent!

If you are staying at one of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels and have Early Theme Park Entry, head straight for Slinky Dog Dash or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, two of the most popular rides in the park. The other three thrill rides also have relatively short queues in the morning, so you might get to tick all of them off before lunch!

In the evening, you can watch Fantasmic!, a musical show featuring stunning visual effects, amazing stunts, pyrotechnics, and music with dancing water and light.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™

This is one of the classic Disney rides and an absolute must-do. Step into the rickety elevator and get ready to scream as you’re dropped up and down the elevator shaft. Be sure to look at the ride pictures afterwards, as these are always good for a laugh!

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

This indoor roller coaster starts with a breathtaking launch before rocketing you around a track with upside-down sections, all to an Aerosmith soundtrack.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Even if you’re not a big Star Wars fan, you’ll still enjoy this attraction. There are no loops or inversions, but the realistic characters, short drops, and blasters make for a fantastic ride.

Slinky Dog Dash

Slinky Dog Dash is a milder ride, but it’s no less fun. There are some dips and quick sections, and it’s a good option for in between the huge thrills. This is a great attraction for younger thrill seekers too as it has a lower height requirements than some of the other roller coasters

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

This interactive simulator ride lets you operate the Millennium Falcon, a Star Wars spaceship. The ride seats six, and each pair has a different task: pilots, weapons, or engineering. The ride experience depends on how well you do in your tasks.

Day 4 - Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

It’s time for the first water park on our list - Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. The park has plenty for both thrill seekers and chill seekers, but here, we’re going to concentrate on the most exciting slides and rides.

Humunga Kowabunga: The most intense ride in the park, this is guaranteed to get your heart racing! This enclosed body slide sends you five stories down an almost vertical slope.

Mayday Falls: Probably the most thrilling of the raft rides here, you’ll take an inner tube ride that starts at the summit of Mount Mayday.

Crush ‘n’ Gusher: Choose to whiz on your own or with a friend down the tube slides on an inflatable raft.

If you fancy trying something different, you can surf at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. If you’re an experienced surfer, book a three-hour session to shred 100 waves, or if you’re just getting started, you can book a beginner lesson before the park opens on select days. This must be booked in advance and is not included in the cost of your park admission.

Day 5 - Go shopping

It’s time to give yourself a break from the thrills and spills of the theme parks. Have a lie-in, a relaxed breakfast, and then hit the malls for some souvenir shopping. There are many malls to choose from, and some of them have additional entertainment, like live music and fairground rides.

In the evening, head to one of the parks to enjoy one of the nighttime shows you haven’t ticked off yet.

Day 6 - Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Animal lovers and thrill seekers alike will love this theme park. We recommend heading straight to one of the park’s most popular attractions, Avatar: Flight of Passage, as there are usually longer wait times later on in the day.

In addition to the rides, there are over 250 kinds of animals to see, so make sure you spend some time discovering this wild side of the park.

Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

This unique roller coaster sees you board an old train bound for Everest Base Camp. This ride sees speeds of up to 50 miles per hour (80 kilometres per hour), and there are sections where you go backwards, and feel like you’re almost upside down.

Avatar Flight of Passage

Experience what it’s like to fly on a Banshee on this simulator ride. The ride vehicle is a bit like a motorbike, and it’s one of the only rides of its kind.

DINOSAUR

DINOSAUR takes you back in time to the late Cretaceous Period when an asteroid threatens the Earth. There’s a moving track, jerky movements, and stunning special effects.

Kali River Rapids

On this thrilling water ride, prepare to get soaked! The rip-roaring raft ride is an exciting adventure with rapids, waterfalls, and dramatic slopes.

Day 7 - Magic Kingdom Park

As well as being the most magical park in Orlando, Magic Kingdom Park has some of the best thrill rides. If you have early entry to the parks, head to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train first. If not, we recommend starting with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

TRON Lightcycle / RUN

This intense roller coaster reaches speeds of up to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometres per hour). Although there aren’t any inversions, it doesn’t need them as it’s one of the fastest roller coasters at any Disney Theme Park in the world.

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is a classic indoor roller coaster that is almost completely in the dark.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

This runaway train ride is a fun, family-friendly coaster with some sharp turns and drops.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Most of this ride is spent floating through state-of-the-art animatronics. However, the drops seem to come out of nowhere, and you’ll get a good soaking near the end!

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Another fun coaster for the whole family, this ride is quite short and has some mild drops and tight turns.

Day 8 - Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park

Time to cool off with a day at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. This ski-resort-themed park has lots of exciting slides, plus a wave pool.

Summit Plummet is the star attraction here. This is the third-tallest free-fall slide in the world, and it plunges you down 12 stories at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometres per hour)!

Other rides not to be missed include Snow Stormers, Slush Gusher, and Downhill Double Dipper.

Day 9 - Beach day

You can’t come to Florida without visiting one of its beautiful beaches, and with 14 days here, you’ve got time to! The closest beaches to Orlando are about an hour’s drive away.

Just because it’s a beach day doesn’t mean the excitement needs to stop! Head to Cocoa Beach to try some water sports like kayaking or jet skiing.

Day 10 - Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There are so many thrill rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that you might not have had time to ride them all on your first day in the park - or you might want to try some of them again!

The Walt Disney World 14-Day Disney Magic Ticket also allows you to park hop, so you can spend the morning at one park and then travel to another in the afternoon.

Day 11 - Magic Kingdom Park

If you didn’t get time to ride all the thrill rides at Magic Kingdom Park, or you’d just prefer to split them over two days, head back today.

You may not have seen the Festival of Fantasy Parade during your first day at Magic Kingdom Park, so make sure you watch it today. Seeing the Disney Characters on their colourful floats making their way through the park to a musical soundtrack is a truly magical experience, even if it’s not quite as thrilling as the coasters!

Day 12 - Disney Springs

Spend the day at Disney Springs, a wonderful entertainment complex. There are shops here, plus entertainment like bowling.

Day 13 - Your choice

We’ve left day 13 open so you can spend it doing whatever you’ve enjoyed the most at Walt Disney World Resort. Choose one of the Disney Parks to go back to and ride your favourite attractions again or try something new.

Day 14 - Tick off any last items

Use your last day in Orlando to tick off anything you’ve not had time to do yet or to go on your favourite rides one last time. Take it easy today. Enjoy the food outlets in the parks and watch some of the amazing shows that wouldn’t look out of place in the West End. Take some time to meet the Disney Characters, too.

If you’ve already seen all the fireworks and nighttime shows, have a relaxed dinner tonight and get an early night before you head home tomorrow.
