6 of the Best Rooftop Bars in New York City
Welcome the sunshine to NYC with these great rooftop bars!
There's a rooftop bar for everyone in NYC, but we've narrowed it down to these top picks...

There’s no better place to be than New York in the early summer. Emerging from the icy cold depths of a New York winter, everyone is eager to get outside and defrost! And where better to do that than on one of the hundreds of rooftops bars dotted around the city? Whether you're looking for somewhere to hang out with friends, have a romantic evening with someone special or even lounge in the pool, we have the place for you.

We love this one because you can get a bit of culture in first at the Met before taking the lift up to the 5th floor for some cocktails and panoramic views from the museum roof! Open May through to October, this is a great spot for gazing over Central Park and for a drink during the day as it closes in the early evening. Cocktails start at $15 or, if you want to keep a straight head for sightseeing, you can grab a mocktail for $7!

As the summer warms up though, you may be looking for a rooftop bar with a pool to dangle your feet in? Ask, and New York City will provide. La Piscine is located at the top of the Hotel Americano in Chelsea, which overlooks the highline and offers fantastic panoramic views of Manhattan. Guests can access the pool for $40 a day, or you can simply make reservations for food and drinks and take in the chilled out atmosphere in one of New York’s prime location hotels.

Upstairs at the Kimberley Hotel

If its romance and an evening tipple under the stars you’re looking for, why not try Upstairs, on the 31st floor of the Kimberley Hotel. Fairy lights and hanging ivy are strung overhead on the outdoor portion of the bar, which boasts views of the Chrysler building from its Midtown location. This is also a great option for a rooftop bar in winter, as it features retractable glass that can be closed during the colder months without compromising on those great views! Small plates of grilled chicken skewers and heirloom baby tomato bruschetta are the cherry on the top of this romantic NYC roof top bar.

How about a rooftop bar for catching up with friends without the huge price tag that goes along with it? Enter Night of Joy in Williamsburg. It may not be in the heart of Manhattan, but it has a happy hour from 5pm – 8pm where cocktails, including the weird and wonderful sounding Basil-Lime Gin Gimlet, are just $6! That certainly adds a few brownie points in our books. On a really hot day, sip frozen margaritas and watch the sun go down.

If money’s no object, what better place to splash the cash than in the bar atop the Hotel Gansevoort, in the Meatpacking district? Everybody in this high end bar is there to be seen, but what REALLY needs to be seen is the unrivalled view of the surrounding Meatpacking District and the breath taking sunset over the Hudson River.

Northern Territory

For food to accompany your rooftop drinks, we recommend Northern Territory on Franklin Street. There’s plenty of seating and a wide, varied menu of snacks and mains so it’s a great no-nonsense place to grab some food and enjoy the views at the same time. Even if you’re not looking to eat, cocktails like “Gin & Milk” and a “Spicy Paloma” are worth checking out, don’t you think?
